The Commonwealth is an association of 54 countries including Africa, Asia and the Americas, Europe and the Pacific. It evolved gradually over the course of the 20th Century, when independence started in the global South.

Since its evolution, it has become more unclear what tangible benefits Commonwealth citizens derive from the organization and what strategic position it holds in the geopolitical environment today.
