There is a long painful history of leftists refusing to work with or compromise with liberals and so both parties lose their freedoms and Knowledge of leftist theory is efficiently suppressed and forgotted by a populous.   Leftists in America are incredibly small and new, and need liberals to help at least protect their free speech so their ideas can actually spread.
