Afterwords......
The gig is done
handshakes and accolades
all finished now
sound equipment disconnected
sheets of songs collected
Voices disembodied
as they wander out the door
the work rendered
moving them to lighter steps
hanging on to some words or phrase
scraped from a writer's soul
Cords wound round my arm
tucked in hollow spaces
behind the amps
words wound round my heart
filled the empty spaces
behind my smile
An outpouring tonight
the mic amplified the feelings inside
blanketing the room and afterwards.
The room is silent
only the chair's stares
greet by my own
empty these four legged creatures
carry dreamers on their backs
who sipped caffeine
and leaned in
to catch a thought
that might move them
farther along in life
some went away emptier
than these chairs
others left full of
warm cappuccino
and heartfelt stories
afterwards.......the gig is empty
afterwards
long after the gig is done
long after
