Roger Olson is an American theologian, serving as a Professor of Christian Theology at Baylor University for many years. Now in retirement, he continues to publish books, one of which is Against Liberal Theology, published in 2022. We recently published a review on Proclaim & Defend.
This book is one that resonates with fundamentalists in its overall theme. There are points where fundamentalist Baptists will strongly disagree with Olson in some of his theological conclusions. Nevertheless, the main idea of this book, that Liberal Christianity is not Christianity at all, is a long-standing tenet of fundamentalist thinking. It is fascinating to see men outside the fundamentalist orbit come to the same conclusions, even if we diverge at other points.
With that in mind, we thought it would be interesting to talk to Dr. Olson about his book and what he was trying to accomplish with it. He very graciously accepted our request. The conversation was interesting, and we hope you find it edifying.
