In this powerful sermon, Pastor Braxton D. Bowser Sr. begins a new series entitled The Jonah Chronicles with a message from Jonah 1:1–8, “Jonah, Why?” Through the story of Jonah, Pastor Bowser challenges us to examine the places where we have said yes to the calling, but no to the assignment.
Jonah was a prophet of God with a clear instruction: go to Nineveh and cry out against their wickedness. Yet instead of obeying, Jonah ran in the opposite direction. This message reminds us that our gifts, callings, and assignments do not belong to us—they are entrusted to us for the glory of God. Pastor Bowser teaches that disobedience often begins when we forget who we belong to, allow our feelings to override our faithfulness, or hold on to revenge instead of surrendering to God’s will.
This sermon is a call to let go, obey God, and serve Him right where we are. Your assignment is bigger than your emotions, your pain, your platform, and your desire for “get back.” Don’t be Jonah. Say yes to the will of the Lord and let God use you mightily.
