There can be benefits and some disadvantages depending where you buy, and you should be thinking about these differences to make sure you maximize your value and get the best quality and prices.   • What other animals can manage your agave or cactus farm in a similar fashion to goats?
    Todays podcast is a question I get often about what other types of animals can help farmers manage their agave or cactus farms. How do these animals compare in fertilizer production, foraging or improvements to soil? Every animal can help a farm, but there are animals that are better suited for every farmers managment style and available time. What i will say is that there is an animal out there for every farm that can help lower your fertilizer, equipment costs, labor and managment costs; There is also an animal for every farm that can increase your farms profits, so its just about finding one or more animals that work for your farm.   • Can running goats in your agave fields increase hijuelo production?
    Today i try to answer a simple question: Does running goats in your agave fields increase hijuelo or pup production? While i think the answer is simple for me, it seems to be more complex as you try to ask that question for the larger industry. Most of the agave industry is a monoculture, and thats in California, Europe, Mexico, African nations, etc. In these systems goats can be help agave grow, but hijuelo production is much more complicated, as the system isnt dynamic or able to reinforce good cycles as much. For instance a farmer that focuses on Traditional Ecological Knowledge or ecosystem farming have similar resulte to mine. As always i go on tangents lmao, if you looking for classic podcast steve, this is a good one. Glad to do a solo one after lots of podcasts with others. Funny when I started the podcast i thought the solo podcasts would be harder, but for me they are easier, as peoples schedules are tough to fit into lol. Anyways enjoy the podcast my people.   • Agave thirsty thursday #2 - Nate Jones from Sweet Acacia Farm

    Today on the podcast we have Nate Jones from Sweet Acacia Farm. He and his fiance are doing some really cool stuff on their farm in Arizona that I think everyone can learn from. They farm agave, cactus, legumes, fruit trees and Arizona and USA Native plants and are focused on improving their farms ecosystem through soil and watershed restoration. I ask Nate some questions about his farm and agave, and he also asks me some tough questions. In this podcast we discuss topics such as Arizona agave, agave products, growing agave, dryfarming agave and essentially how an Arizona farm is approaching this crop.      This is the 2nd of the California Agave Alliance podcasts, and this one is a discussion on California Assembly Bill 2606, aka "CA AB 2606" and it's implications for the agave industry. 

    Today we discussed the primary bill that will be affecting agave farmers in California, CA AB 2606. As hosts, from the California agave alliance, are Dr. Samuel Sandoval, Agave researcher at UC Davis, and Steve Sanchez, an Agave Farmer in California.

  • Discussing California Agave with the California Agave Alliance(CAA podcasts #1)

    Skip to 3 minutes in, thats where we all connect and the podcast starts. Today on the podcast we have Dr. Samuel Sandoval Solis and Dr. Yessica Fernandez, both working on agave at UC Davis and apart of the California Agave Alliance. We discuss the California agave industry, what we are seeing from farmers and different agave species that are being planted.

    We were suppose to have Angel Reyna, President of Madera Community College, on the podcast, but we had some technical difficulties today. Don't worry though, we will reschedule and have Mr Reyna on the podcast another day to discuss the Madera Agave project, which is very exciting. So stay tuned for that.   • Can agave & Cactus help alleviate pressure on the California grape industry and California agriculture as a whole?
    Today i am talking about acalifornia grapes and how agave and cactus farming may provide an avenue for many of these farmers to adapt, survive ot even continue growing grapes. I also talk about greater implications of switching large acreage of grapes to agave and cactus. Could agave and cactus let these farmers still make wine and tons of other products, allowing them to stay in buisness or continue making wine? I say yes. Anyways enjoy the podcast. Have a good one

Alot ro learn from their rapid scaling of the cultivation of agave utahensis. Some cool stuff going on over there, and as a california agave farmer, they lowkey beating us at our own game lol.
