People seem to interpret AGI as AI taking over a la Terminator SkyLink, but what it actually is, is when AI is able to outperform any given expert in a given mostly intellectual field. With AI being fed all written knowledge from books, studies to curriculum of the best universities, it is only logical that this type of AGI will occur sooner rather than later. But what this means is that the knowledge of people applied in research to work settings will no longer be necessary. At this point, with this type of AGI able to effectively plan and forecast better than any given individual, the need for people thinking to solve problems will gradually fade out. This will entail huge disruption and massive loss of white collar jobs as well as other categories of work relying primarily on problem-solving and creativity.
