"after the pandemic came the Renaissance". After stumbling upon this quote on social media, I couldn't help but think this was over-romanticizing unfortunate historic events but after taking on to the web and doing a little bit of research of what the Renaissance meant to Europe, its culture, religion, and classical arts, here's my take on what it REALLY should mean.
Why are we so hooked to being complacent? How much of ourselves do we sacrifice just to feign being unrealistically better versions of ourselves? I have decided to embrace the imperfect, non-complacent person that I am. I have decided to only do things out of passion and true purpose, opposed to the instilled puerto rican tradition of doing things just because they will make you seem like a better person. Here's how I did it.
Have you ever wondered how the food we eat and the clothes we buy affects our environment? Where does all our waste go? How does consumerism culture enable negative environmental impacts? What can we do to better the situation in Puerto Rico? I sat with Ledishla (@betweenblackandbliss), an advocate for sustainable living and veganism who has dedicated her platform to educating her followers on sustainable ways to live, to learn a little more about how we can switch up our diet to one that is eco-friendly and how we can refrain from plastic consumption (and greenwashing, ew) in an island that does not encourage its community to reduce waste or recycle. Through her we will redirect our focus on solutions that work, rather than on problems that don't.
Being born in the era of technology can be a blessing, or definitely a curse when you look at it from different perspectives. Through social media platforms you can network and establish friendships with amazing people and encounter yourself with the not-so-great. In this episode, I will delve deeper into how social media has shaped me into the person I am today, and how I've worked through the social media bullying in order to never lose the essence of how I perceive myself.
