AI Making Up Information: Google Bard Admits "Likely That I Made Up" Data
While researching information for my generic donut stores episode, I realized that Google Bard completely made up survey results and then cited to a made up source, the "Donut Hole Marketing Association". When I asked for a link, Bard even provided the fake URL:
donutholemarketingassociation.org/survey
Bard had also made up survey results from the imaginary National Association of Donut Retailers (NADR) to answer how many donut stores used the generic brand name of "donuts".

I've heard about AI, including ChatGPT, making up information before, but this particular example was especially bad because Bard not only made up the survey results but then doubled down with a fake URL.
