  • 0006 Getting Paid To Learn AI Is Easier Than Using It

If you know someone stuck on what their kid should do after graduation — or someone just trying to prove that you can build something real online — send them this episode. And when you have thirty seconds, a review helps this show reach the next mom with an AI Existential Crisis.

Mandi opens this episode with the money conversation she's been having with herself and her "not-husband" Preston — a tough economy, a mortgage, utilities paid a little late — and turns it into research: where are the real, paid ways into AI and skilled labor right now, for her kids and for yours?

She names one post-grad program that skips the job and teaches you how to go into business for yourself using AI. That one you pay for, but she names three other real and recognizable employers who are paying for travel, accommodations, and training before employing them.

They're not all tech. One is a trade school for skilled labor, building data centers. She reminds us that it's your job and hers to get involved where it can make a difference; to push back on the very same companies to usher in a future we can be proud of for our kids and Mother Earth.

Mandi also flags a disturbing recent federal court ruling on AI-generated content involving non-real children — not fully researched yet, but too important to sit on — and makes the case that fear about AI is better spent getting involved locally than shouting into comment sections. Tune into the next episode for what she's doing about the ruling, immediately.

She closes on the bigger argument underneath the job list: the value you add to the world is shifting from what you can produce to who you are. A cardiologist's worth won't be the diagnosis much longer — it'll be how he explains your own heart to you. That's the part AI won't take.

  • 0005 Homeschool or Public School

You're not afraid AI will raise your kids. You're afraid you aren't enough to — and the moment you let both answers (school OR homeschool) be okay, the fear levels out. AI can give you ideas, but this is one question it can't answer for you.

Hear something that breaks the mold or shifts your thinking? Please rate, review, and share with a friend.

AI Mom is a real woman. This podcast is recorded on a Rodecaster, in her voice, without any screens. She's a former Evernote employee who enjoyed an early career in Austin's tech & start-up scene followed by a decade of selling real estate in downtown Austin, TX.

Today she balances AI with her analog lifestyle and her life's work as a writer and a creative with full time motherhood. Now you're joining her on the frontlines of change that could directly impact you and your children.

In this episode, Mandi shares her fears and AI fails... or is it she who is failing?

Maybe you're there too: house going up for sale, a move on the table, a kid asking for something that rubs against everything you believed you'd do. And underneath the logistics, a quieter fear — that you're not enough for them. That you're not worthy of teaching your own kids.

So here's the real question, and I'm asking you, not the machine: how do you use AI to supplement your kids' education, your creativity, and the possibilities for learning? Comment your ideas below — I read every constructive one.

    QUESTIONS IN THIS EPISODE
    - How do you know if you're doing life, parenting, or marriage "right"?
    - How do you hold uncertainty without panicking or overthinking?
    - What does it look like to practice compassion and grace with your partner and yourself?
    - How do you navigate the homeschooling vs. school decision?
    - How can AI be used to empower homeschooling, creativity, and learning?
    - What does it mean to trust that your kids will be okay either way?
    - How can you stay present in the middle of change, pressure, and family life?

How can we balance AI's benefits with environmental responsibilities?

AI's water use poses real threats. Can local action drive change?

    Episode Summary

In a world where AI is changing how we work, parent, learn, and create, there's a deeper question hiding beneath all the headlines:

Who are you when everything changes?

In this episode, I share why I started AI Mom, how my own fears about artificial intelligence have evolved into curiosity, and why I believe parents need a place to wrestle with these questions together.

This isn't a tech podcast full of prompts and productivity hacks. And it isn't a parenting podcast with perfect answers.

    It's a conversation about identity.

What happens when AI can do more of what we've always believed made us valuable? What happens when our jobs change, education changes, healthcare changes—even the way we think changes?

I'm inviting you into my own journey as I learn alongside my husband, use AI as a thinking partner, confront my tendency toward denial, and ask the questions I believe every parent will eventually have to face.

    I don't have the answers.

But I think curiosity will take you farther than fear.

    In This Episode

    • Why I created AI Mom
    • Translating AI fear into hope and practical action
    • Using AI as a thought partner for personal growth
    • The relationship between productivity and self-worth
    • Why identity may become the biggest conversation of the AI era
    • The questions every parent should start asking now
    • Why embracing uncertainty may be the most important skill we'll develop
    Memorable Quotes

"Who are you when everything changes?"

"This isn't an AI tools podcast. It's a journey through embracing—and fearing—the technology that's changing our lives."

"Perhaps for the first time, mankind is behind together."

"If my productivity is no longer the impetus for my value... who am I then?"

"Let's watch history unfold and prepare ourselves to be part of it."
