Hosted by award winning filmmaker Julian Bate-Vergette and Screenwriting Coach Jason C. Marshall he Adventures in Filmmaking Podcast aims to share the stories of independent filmmakers. The challenges they face as well as their successes and failures. Ultimately we aim to answer the biggest question of all; why are we compelled to tell our stories with motion pictures.

In the first episode Julian and Jason discuss their filmmaking background, both individually and after teaming up.

Julian spends some time discussing his true* first film; The Silencer. From creating the first version to recutting/remastering it years later. 

Creating his follow up films Sleep, Catharsis and the Portrait. Catharsis having never been released due to production issues and, ultimately, not being prepared.

The hosts also discuss the somewhat frantic pace of creating short films between 2019 and 2020.

Julian also discusses making his most personal film, Sand and Stone and it winning the top prize at the Digi60 Film Festival.

Filmmaking is also experimenting. Being, generally, unhappy with the finished films it was decided to go back to basics after watching a number of David F. Sandberg (Ponysmasher) shorts. Spirit Bell was born out of those discussions.

Spirit Bell was an attempt to make a quick, simple and focused horror short. Ultimately it paid off with the highest number of views on youtube of all the previous films, and an annual spike in views at Halloween!

Sadly Covid put many plans on hold, but once the restrictions lifted (for the third time) a new concept horror short was lined up to shoot.

The Spirit Bell, a loose sequel to Spirit Bell was shot in November 2021. This time, however, planning was the key. By slowing down and taking more time in preproduction the actual production time was used far more effectively than ever before.
