Aileen Wuornos, a notorious American serial killer, was convicted of murdering seven men in Florida between 1989 and 1990. Working as a sex worker, Wuornos claimed the killings were in self-defense, alleging that the men had either raped or attempted to rape her. She was arrested in 1991 after her accomplice, Tyria Moore, cooperated with police. Wuornos was later sentenced to death and executed by lethal injection in 2002.
