AirBnB: Pigs Get Fat, Hogs Get Slaughtered | ReWire 1326

Listen Later

Ten years ago, when AirBnB got their start, they were supposed to be a better alternative to hotels.  They expanded to cities around the globe.  Each one a unique opportunity for a different experience for their guests.

They grew exponentially and soon, everyone and their mothers started getting in on the arbitrage game, investors came in purchasing homes up en mass, real estate agents and regular joes.  In order to maximize profits, they shaved some of the work off of the cleaning service by passing it to the clients.

They had demands like, "Strip the bedding," "Empty the trash," and everything else you THINK the cleaning fee would cover.

They got greedy.

Got fat.

Right now, they're being banned in cities across the United States. Dallas just passed a law citing it is illegal to have an AirBnB.

The very same thing happened to Uber. They had to do battle with the cab companies just to win the right to operate in certain cities.

Everyone gets paid.

But like I say, pigs get fat and hogs get slaughtered.

If AirBnB is to stay for the long game, they're going to have to stop asking their clients to do their dirty work or they won't have a business that stays afloat.
