Last episode we introduced you to my dear friend, Upe. Now, t’s time to hear Upe’s interview with Hans Muth. Airhead aficionados know Hans produced designs for legendary BMW motorcycles including the R90S, R100RS, R 80 G/S and R65 LS. Muth’s work and landmark styling were key to helping BMW maintain viability with its Motorrad division in the 1970s and early 80s.

One note about this interview—the audio signal we had for Hans leaves a bit to be desired and we apologize for this on the front end. Yes, it sounds like it's coming thru the original trans-Atlantic cable—but—we had one chance to get Hans for this and had to roll with it.

Normally we’d not air audio with this signal quality but we are making an exception and for good reason. We’d originally planned to visit w/ Hans in person last year but his travel to the US was put on hold at the time.

It's part two of our chat with Grammy Nominated musician and airhead enthusiast Hans Christian. When we last were together our conversation was rudely interrupted by poor phone service from our local telco—Yelcot. Alas, we were able to re-establish a phone connection a few days later and we’ll pick up the chat and get into some good airhead conversation, as promised. On tap we'll visit with Hans about refreshing his R50/5 and we’ll get some tips from him on relining the tank, touching up the frame and repairing the seat hinge on the frame among other topics.

Also....We’ll be taking the month of July off for some travel that includes a trip to Germany and a Nurburg Green 75/6. More on that later. So in lieu of new programs for the next several weeks we are re releasing two full episodes of Tech Talk segments w/ William Plam from Boxer 2 Valve. We’ll cover a number of topics in these including airhead brakes, top end refreshing, transmissions and replacing the rear main seal. So, while we are away, hope you’ll revisit these segments and we’ll be back with new programs in August—including the long awaited interview with Hans Muth.

In part one of our chat we’ll discuss Hans' recent Grammy nomination and hear his story of moving to the US with just a few hundred dollars to start his life as a musician in Los Angeles in the early 1980s.

Part 2 of our conversation with Chris Hodgson. Chris is synonymous with BMW motorcycles. His motorcycle career started in earnest in the early 70’s as a mechanic at BMW of Denver, followed by a long successful tenure at San Jose BMW. Chris helped lead the San Jose BMW race team to numerous victories, establishing BMW and the 247 platform as more than a humble touring machine. He later launched CC products and became a leader in aftermarket parts and development for BMW and other brands. Chris eventually came full circle and purchased San Jose BMW, which is still a family run dealership today.
