Welcome back Alabama fans and do we have a treat for you.

Tonight we’re joined by – Current Texas HS coach, future coaching legend, long time podcast follower and Support team icon – Jordan

Jordan, thanks for joining us tonight.

Coward calls it a meat sandwich, I’m calling it a pizza with the topping to the edge. There’s no shallow end to this pool. Let’s jump in.

Last couple seasons you’ve been a QB Coach and more recently added Passing Game Coordinator. How do you characterize your offensive approach?

How do you balance or coordinate when a team has co-coordinators, Running and Passing Game Coordinators?

• How do you call a game? Rules for the roles… how to prevent it from being predictable? How to remain fluid in game?

• Ego balancing is lot to do with the personalities but it happens. Saw it at Alabama with Mike Locksley and Josh Gattis

• Cohesion – blocking schemes, play action, with potentially split practice time

When calling a game, what preferences, Pros, Cons do you see for calling it from the bench vs the booth?

• Do sight lines differ significantly field to field – booth placements or crown on the field?

• Do QBs have a preference where you’re located?

We’ve all heard a version of – everyone should be required to wait tables at least once in their life because it’ll change how they experience and treat service workers. I imagine there’s a coaches version of that… what do average fans not understand or take for granted?

You hear fans say things like…

• Everyone in the stadium knew where they were going with the ball

• You gotta throw beyond the sticks

• Run the damn ball

• How can you be unpredictable while doing what everyone thinks is right in a given situation?

• Which is more important, predictability or execution?

Recruiting – have a player recruited to big time college? What level? What is the recruiting process like from the HS coach side?

Building relationships with HS programs, establishing a pipeline

Smart guy once said ‘every action has an equal and opposite reaction’. This has a corollary to the concept of unintended consequences. At the HS level, what impacts have you observed as a result of the expanded Transfer Portal?

• How about the extra Covid year? Essentially an expanded inventory of players

What about coaches moving around? In particular HS coaches climbing the ladder – within HS ranks and crossing over to college?

Let’s pull this closer into the realm of Alabama Football. Talk about the differences between a College and NFL offensive approach. BOB and Sark as proxies. Both very talented coaches with each bringing an Heisman winner to Tuscaloosa but the product experience was so different.

OK. You saw this coming. Tommy Rees – you’ve done some homework. In fact, I think one of the few places in the world with 6am film Friday morning film breakdowns was our Zoom team chat line. What do you see from Rees that excites or gives pause?

For the OC job, what other names were you watching for rooting for, prior to Rees emerging?

DC remains open. Pruitt, Leonard, Schulman….. Steel, Armstrong, Lake, T-Rob…. Who do you think / hope emerges?

From the perspective of a coach. What do you appreciate most (or least) from Saban?

Saban has said he can’t watch football for fun because he starts breaking it down and it becomes work. If he’s gonna work he may as well go back to the office. You’re not there yet are you?

With informed entertainment in mind – Sunday’s Super Bowl. What do you watch or see or track that would help us casual fans to enjoy and understand what’s we’re seeing just a little bit more.
