SHOW SUMMARY: In our latest episode of Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise, PWTorch columnist Alan4L is joined by Grappl’s Gareth Hodgson for the July edition of “What’s on the Telly?” In this monthly series, Alan and his guest will each pick an episode of wrestling TV from that month in the past and break it down. This time around we’re sticking to the ’90s but with two promotions of vastly different size and scale. Scale was the order of the day for WCW on July 6th, 1998, as they scaled up in a major way for the first Monday Nitro in the Georgia Dome and the legendary world title match between Hollywood Hogan and Bill Goldberg. Alan and Gareth break down the way they approached that three-hour show, analyze how they told the story during the course of the evening, and look at how it affected the other matches and performers on the show. But first, a trip to the Smoky Mountains in 1994, where things may not have been as grandiose but there was tension aplenty with the debut of the Gangstas, people getting jumped in car parks, and even labor union strikes! SHOW SUMMARY: In our latest episode of Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise, PWTorch columnist Alan4L is joined by the great Joe Gagne for a look back on the history of Osaka Pro Wrestling. From its inception as a breakaway from Michinoku Pro in 1999 through spinoffs, closures, and rebirths, Osaka Pro has always provided a charming alternative form of wrestling molded by the vision of founder Super Delfin. Staying true to its local roots all the way, the promotion spawned a flavor of wrestling which was uniquely its own but would inspire companies and wrestlers worldwide, most notably Chikara Pro. Alan and Joe discuss the many staple Osaka Pro characters from mascots Ebessan and Kuishinbo Kamen to heel linchpins Dick Togo and Big Boss Magma, and all the colorful characters along the way. There aren’t many promotions where you could have seen a diminutive kickboxer have a four-star match with a baseball playing buffalo, but if that’s what you needed in your wrestling diet, Osaka was the place to go. And if you want to hear all the stories and get match recommendations aplenty, then “Joesaka Holiday Paradise” is the episode of this podcast for you!

SHOW SUMMARY: In our latest episode of Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise, PWTorch columnist Alan4L is joined by Conor Keary for the June edition of “What’s on the Telly?” In this monthly series, Alan and his guest will each pick an episode of wrestling TV from that month in the past and break it down. This time around it’s a double dose of NWA/WCW as we go to 1985 and 1993 for two shows which exemplify just how much a promotion can change in eight years. That said, the shows had some similarities in structure. Both featured an array of showcase matches, although with very different crews of talent (The Wrecking Crew of ’93 don’t quite measure up to the Minnesota Wrecking Crew of ’85), and both had big name competitive main events. For NWA on TBS, Magnum TA put $1,000 on the line to get “Nature Boy” Ric Flair in the ring, and on WCW Power Hour, Ricky Steamboat was the lucky recipient of a shot at Big Van Vader’s title in a “Computerised Contender Challenge.” Alan and Conor compare and contrast, and give you their thoughts on all the stars (and non-stars) that popped up. SHOW SUMMARY: In our latest episode of Alan4L’s ProWres Paradise, PWTorch columnist Alan4L is joined by his old wXw commentary partner Jeremy Graves for the May edition of “What’s on the Telly?” In this monthly series, Alan and his guest will each pick an episode of wrestling TV from that month in the past and break it down. This time around the guys were treated to shows that would have needed three days to give the detail they warrant, but you’ll have to settle for three hours! There was so much to talk about. There’s no surprise when it comes to a 2000 Nitro; it’s going to be a mile a minute and this “FUBAR”/”FUNB” era episode barely stayed on the tracks as it raced through a million angles and developments over the course of the show. Flair family drama, Falkinburg family drama, and Hogan family drama are just the start as we also see Sting and Vampiro with their weird relationship, Lex Luger’s latest disguise, and vehicles… so many vehicles. Things are a lot more low key in the studios of Memphis wrestling back in 1985 but no less noteworthy. The episode in question sees us get very well acquainted with orator extraordinaire Mr. Kareem Muhammed, as he takes over the show and ruffles quite a few feathers. Summer is around the corner and the outdoors awaits, but it’s okay to relax on the couch for a bit and check out what’s on the telly with us!
