Alan Johnson: Increase in families waiting for public housing sparks concern

Eligible families in need of public housing are having to wait an average of 137 days before they get a roof over their heads.
A new report from the Ministry of Social Development has revealed more than 8500 eligible families were awaiting housing support from the Government in the June quarter.
That's a nine percent increase in its Social Housing Register from the previous quarter - and a whopping 56 percent increase compared to last year.
Salvation Army policy analyst Alan Johnson told Mike Hosking it's a worry the figures are increasing each quarter.
"At the moment it doesn't seem as though whatever is being done is sufficient to meet that growth."
