Alexandra DiPalma and her partner Kenya moved from New York City to Mexico City. But soon after they arrived, Kenya needed major surgery. And Alex, accustomed to fixing problems, had to learn a new skill and an important lesson.

While "the unexamined life is not worth living," is a stronger stance than I take, I do believe the examined life allows a person to get smarter about how to live it. 

So, that's what I do here—reflect on my life or something from life. My hope is that my public reflections prompt your own private reflections and that together we build a life with a little more breathing room, a little more intelligence, a little more forgiveness for ourselves and those we love.
