When Alexa released in 2014 people really went crazy for them, her?, enough for it to sell out ahead of the holidays.
By 2019, just 5 years later after launch- Amazon had already sold 100 million Alexas (which is close to how fast the iPhone sold when it was released) , and had managed to make Google and Apple sprint to play catch up.
Another revolution, right?
More than Alexa, we were crazy for IoT in the 2010s.
And so we bought smart locks, smart lamps, smart bulbs, smart strips, smart Wifi? Smart toilets-
These were never too cheap, by the way. It seems that the tech behind those devices has been around for years, but they still haven’t gotten cheaper- and definitely not a standard. A topic for another day.
The point is Alexa was going to help us make them all work together.
Until it didn’t.
