Alexander established his Balanescu Quartet in 1987, and over the years has collaborated with such diverse artists as: Kraftwerk, Pet Shop Boys, Jack De Johnette, Ornette Coleman, and Goldfrapp. Alexander's film scores include: Angels and Insects, the Italian war film, Johnny The Partisan, The Way I Spent The End Of The World, and documentary The Magic Mountain.
More recently, Alexander worked on Anca Damian's acclaimed, animated musical comedy, The Island.
