With a career spanning nearly three decades, Alexander Kowalski’s story is a living testament to the legacy of Berlin techno. His journey began in the late 90s amidst the city’s cultural revolution, ignited by the emergence of techno music. Debuting in 1997 under the moniker DisX3 at the legendary club Tresor in Berlin, he quickly established himself as a
driving force in shaping the sounds of the era with fast-paced beats and robust bass lines.
His impactful live sets also led to releases on the esteemed label of Tresor.
Under the guidance of Heiko Laux’s Kanzleramt label, Kowalski pioneered the melodic and sophisticated sound for which he is renowned—a sound that has become synonymous with German techno. His albums ‘Echoes’, ‘Progress’, and ‘Response’, along with tracks like ‘Speaker Attack,’ ‘Belo Horizonte,’ and ‘All I Got To Know,’ have made significant contributions to the history of techno.
Kowalski’s music productions and live performances have earned widespread acclaim from both dancefloor enthusiasts and discerning music critics alike. His remixes are highly sought after by icons such as Dave Gahan, Joris Voorn, Paul Kalkbrenner and Funk D´Void. This he balances with a heavy touring schedule, appearing at major festivals including Awakenings, Time Warp, Mayday, Nature One, I Love Techno, Monegros, Aquasella, and many more.
In 2009, he launched his own label, Damage Music, as a platform for his own music and releases from artists he really admires. He has also released music on esteemed platforms such as Be As One, ARTS, Illegal Alien, Tronic, and Arkham Audio. His ‘Cycles’ LP on
Mord stands as a testament to his ability to create timeless music, showcasing the enduring relevance and agility of his productions.
As techno continues to evolve, so too does Kowalski’s artistry. He remains at the forefront of modern techno innovation with his principal releases under the name Alexander Kowalski. Additionally, he keeps the analog spirit of 90s techno alive through his DisX3 live and DJ performances, transporting new generations of dancers back to the genre’s golden age.
