My guest today is Alexandra Zapruder, the granddaughter of Avraham Zapruder, the Russian Jewish immigrant living in Dallas, who recorded the Zapruder film – raw unedited footage of President John F. Kennedy’s assasination. Divine Providence? I think so. What does Alexandra think? How did Mr. Zapruder handle the moral dilemmas that ensued as a result of him owning this film? When he received money for the film, what did he did do with the money? And what happened later on in history which resulted in Alexandra’s father receiving $16 million from the federal government for the film? All this and more today on Jewish Latin Princess as I interview the Author of Twenty Six- Seconds: A Personal History of the Zapruder Film. Yes, only twenty six seconds and how they impacted not just the American public, but one Jewish man and his family.

More on Alexandra. She began her career as a member of the founding staff of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. A graduate of Smith College, she served on the curatorial team for the museum’s exhibition for young visitors, Remember The Children, Daniel’s Story. She earned her Master’s Degree in Education at Harvard University in 1995.

In 2002, Alexandra completed her first book, Salvaged Pages: Young Writers’ Diaries of the Holocaust, which was published by Yale University Press and won the National Jewish Book Award in the Holocaust category. She wrote and co-produced I’m Still Here, a documentary film for young audiences based on her book, which aired on MTV in May 2005 and was nominated for two Emmy awards. In the fall of 2015, she completed a second paperback edition and a multimedia edition of Salvaged Pages, and worked with the educational nonprofit Facing History and Ourselves to develop interdisciplinary educational materials for the book designed for middle and high school teachers. Twenty Six Seconds: A Personal Story of the Zapruder Film is Alexandra’s second book. Here’s Alexandra Zapruder.
