Today’s story is about a product idea that I have, so I’m establishing first use, right here. I haven’t seen anything like it. I used to hear about these things people would make with paper towel cardboard rolls. They would scent paper towels with something and put them in the paper towel thing and then when they blew smoke into them it would help mask the smell. I have heard of this.
Ali’s Dilemma
Ali’s second son to go off to college has only been there a week, and there has already been a phone call from the school. Apparently the young man, who received a scholarship to an art school in the mountains, created a product in his ceramics class that merited a call to the parents.
A cylindrical marijuana smoking device with a air filter on the other end. Each end of the pipe is a separate device, partitioned from the other. One smokes from one end, then simply turns it around and exhales through that end, where it is filtered and disguised with essential oils. The idea is to disguise or deaden the smell of the smoke. And it’s quite nice-looking.
“Have him send that to me right away." Ali responds to the school administrator as they have this polite and friendly conversation. “I can’t allow him to have that."
“I’ll have to see if I can do that, sir.” She responds. Ali thinks for a minute. “Ok. Then can you describe it to me?” He wants the school admin to describe it to him.
She begins describing the smoking device. "Well," she says. “It’s about six and a half inches long; it looks like a single pipe, but there is a partition right in the middle. It’s about a one and a half-inch cylinder." Then on one side it has the bowl for the marijuana, and the other side is just open, but you put paper towels in there that have been treated with aromatic oils to try to hide the smell of the pot coming out of the holes near the back of that chamber.”
“And it’s very nice; he did very good work." I can tell you that making something this small come out so well on a first attempt is great. I’m thinking he has done some ceramics.”
Ali is aware of his son’s talents. “Yes, he has done a lot of things I’ve never done. He loves art. He’s always been a little creator his whole life. He gravitates toward it. We never inhibited him. It’s his nature to create."
“How about this?” Ali says, “Can you take a picture of it and send it to me?"
“Sure, of course, that’s not a problem.” She drops the photo on him as they talk.
“This is too bad.” Ali says. He’s looking at the photo.
“Sir, really, we aren’t taking it as a danger sign, as in, it’s not a red flag for us; we just thought it would be the best that you know about it and that he won’t be allowed to have this at the dorm; it’s nothing disciplinary."
“I don’t understand." Ali says, “How can you blow into it and the smoke goes away?"
“Well, the thing is, there’s a little chamber.” The admin says. “Inside, there is a rolled-up paper towel. It smells like lavender and peppermint, and maybe some orange or something. “Then, when you blow the smoke in there, it hides the odor before it goes out through the little holes in the back of it, they are in the sides, kind of like a flute, or something. .”
“But then,” Ali says, “when you blow the smoke in, doesn’t that just blow all of the drugs out of the pipe?"
"No," the admin says, “because the two are separate." It looks like a single unit, but it’s not; there is a divider in there."
“Oh, I get it.” Ali says. “OK."
“I understand, ma'am," Ali says. “We have some talking to do, that’s all. I’ll be in touch with him tonight, and we’ll go over everything in detail."
She responds. “Well, we really want you to know how glad we are that he’s here. We love having him, and he fits in so well." We have a lot of confidence in him."
“As do I." Ali says. “Thank you very much." The two exchange pleasantries, and Ali hangs up.
Ali is shaking his head because this isn’t the design they had discussed. Ali is talking to himself: ”It was supposed to be 2 inches longer, and the bowl should be built into the tube, not have an external, removable bowl. This would allow it to be mass produced in any number of materials and become an archetypal design. And we have to come up with a smokeless bowl. Maybe that’s why he was trying a separate bowl. OK”
Ali calls his brother at the Dispensary that they own: “Hey, we are getting closer on the design for that smoke disguiser. I’ll send you a pic.”
The End.
They were doing product development and the young guy got caught!
What should I call my smoking device that scents the smoke a little to help hide it? I know there are electronic products that do this but this is something fun a lot of people from my generation would like because I’ve heard that is a really popular way to disguise smoke. That’s what I’ve heard second hand from people anyway.
What about “Cannaflauge”. What about that? Cannaflauge Smoke Disguiser. “Disguiser” isn’t even a word so I love it more. I just added to the dictionary twice by naming one thing. See how efficient I am? Hire me, I can do this for YOU! I’m Herschel Sterling and I’m here to help. LOL
