A stock's beta why it doesn't work.

When a hypothesis and its outcome differ, the hypothesis' validity should be questioned and a determination of why the observations didn't match the hypothesis...brings understanding.  

There is a plethora of papers stating that beta provides a poor indicator of a stock's risk, yet none we have found explain why; this podcast attempts to do so.
