  • The Family Hierarchy: The Heart of the Home

    Send us Fan Mail

Shantanell continues her series on the biblical order of the family. While last week Johnathon and Shantanell explored the role of the husband within this hierarchy, this episode focuses on the unique calling and responsibilities of the wife and mother in God’s design for the family.

Drawing from her own experiences as a wife and mother, Shantanell discusses both the blessings and challenges of fulfilling these roles, including the added complexities of navigating a blended family dynamic. She examines biblical examples that provide wisdom and encouragement for women in different seasons of life, including Abigail’s discernment and character, King Lemuel’s mother in Proverbs 31, and the stories of Hagar and the widow of 2 Kings 4 as examples of God’s care and provision for single mothers.

Through Scripture and personal reflection, Shantanell offers practical insights into faithfully serving God within the family while embracing the responsibilities and opportunities that come with motherhood and marriage

This episode brings awareness, understanding, and encouragement for men navigating leadership, faith, and family.

  • The Family Hierarchy Continued

This episode continues the discussion on the biblical hierarchy of family introduced in previous episodes. Shantanell emphasizes the importance of understanding this hierarchy, especially in light of recent events involving men harming their wives and children.

She takes listeners back to Genesis, explaining that before there was woman, there was God and man. This foundational relationship highlights the value of time spent with God in singlehood—a period meant for growing in faith, love, identity, and purpose. Once a person is firmly rooted in Christ and guided by divine discernment, they are then prepared to bring a spouse into their life in alignment with God’s design.

In the latest episode, Shantanell reintroduces herself after a few months away and kicks off Season 2 of the podcast. She shares with her audience the new direction for this season, expanding beyond blended families to explore the importance of family as a whole.

While the podcast was originally created as a resource for blended families, Shantanell explains that all family structures can be challenging—especially when the foundation is not solid. Blended families, in particular, add another layer of complexity to these dynamics.

To introduce the series, Shantanell references Genesis 1 and 2, highlighting the creation of man and woman, along with Ephesians 6 to discuss family hierarchy and its significance.

  • Parenting from your Trauma Part 2

In this episode, Shantanell shares a powerful contrast between two biblical parents—Jabez’s mother and Rachel—who named their children from a place of deep pain. Unlike Abraham and Hannah, who parented from promise, these women allowed their trauma to define their legacy. Shantanell dives into how our own unhealed wounds can shape how we raise, speak to, and lead others—and why it’s vital to break that cycle. Just because pain is part of your story doesn’t mean it should parent your future.

In this episode, Shantanell presents a framework for raising children with the promises of God in mind, rather than allowing past trauma to dictate how we parent. She draws on biblical examples, specifically Abraham and Hannah, to illustrate how these parents focused on God’s promises when raising their children, despite their personal struggles.

For instance, Abraham trusted in God’s promise that he would become the father of many nations, despite his age and the challenges he faced. His faith in God’s word helped shape the way he raised his son Isaac, prioritizing God’s plan over his own doubts or fears.

Similarly, Hannah, who experienced the deep pain of infertility, chose to place her trust in God’s promise. Rather than allowing her trauma to control her, she prayed fervently and dedicated her son Samuel to the Lord. Hannah’s story highlights how a parent's faith in God's promises can guide their approach to parenting, even in the face of personal heartache.
