Eva Ries ist in den frühen 90ern in das Musik- und Hip Hop-Business gekommen und arbeitet seit dem besonders intensiv mit dem Wu-Tang Clan und RZA zusammen. Den Clan begleitet sie seit dem ersten, 1993 erschienen Album „Enter The Wu-Tang: 36 Chambers“, ein wegweisender Klassiker und eines der wichtigsten Hip Hop Alben überhaupt. Eines der vielen, einflussreichen Alben, das vom Clan und den einzelnen Membern veröffentlicht wurde.
Eva war von Anfang an dabei, hat sich um alles im Hintergrund gekümmert und sich dabei nie unterkriegen lassen. Fotos, Marketing, Managerin, Tour Managerin. Immer irgendwo zwischen professionell beruflicher und freundschaftlicher Beziehung zum Clan und den einzelnen Membern, mit denen sie durch dick und dünn gegangen ist. Eine Beziehung, die über die Jahre und Jahrzehnte immer weitergewachsen ist.
Schon im ersten Blinkin' Lights Interview von 2018 hat Eva erzählt, dass sie über ihre Geschichte und Erlebnisse gerne ein Buch schreiben würden. Nun ist es endlich soweit! Ihr Buch „Wu-Tang is forever – Im engsten Kreis der größten Band der Welt“ erscheint am 17.03.2022 beim Benevento Verlag. Ein Buch über Evas Geschichte, über ihre Erlebnisse in der Musikwelt und mit dem Wu-Tang Clan. Es gibt einen Einblick hinter die Kulissen und erzählt Anekdoten wie Evas Auseinandersetzungen mit Nirvana, das erste Mal Wu-Tang hören oder ein Erdbeben beim Jobantritt. Es geht um Karriere, Erfolg, Streit, um Rassismus und Polizeigewalt, um gute Freundschaften und schlechte Geschäftspartner.
Im Interview sprechen wir über das Buch, ihre Karriere seit Anfang der 90er und ihre Erlebnisse mit dem Clan. Außerdem über das Tourleben, Streitereien über Gagen, die Polizei in den Projects in New York und Eva verrät uns ihre Lieblings Wu-Songs.

In dieser Folge geht es zurück bis zu den Roots der jamaikanischen Musikkultur. Es geht los bei der britischen Kolonialgeschichte auf Jamaika und den daraus resultierenden politische und gesellschaftliche Entwicklungen auf Jamaika und in Großbritannien. Es geht um die Entstehung von Ska, Rocksteady, Reggae und Dub Music. Es geht um Sound Systems, Clashes, DJ's und MC's und den Einfluss auf die britische und amerikanische Musik, auf Grime und Hip Hop.
Für die geschichtlichen Themen zu Kolonialismus, Sklaverei, der Geschichte Jamaikas und der Windrush Generation habe ich mir Hilfe von Dr. Heike Raphael-Hernandez geholt. Sie hat unter anderem an der UC Berkely, an der Harvard-University und der Standford-University geforscht und ist aktuell wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin der American Studies der Universität Würzburg. Ihre Forschungsschwerpunkte sind unter anderem Kolonialismus, die deutsche Kolonialgeschichte, die Transatlantische Sklaverei, Black Atlantic Studies, Caribbean Studies, Migration und Immigration. Flip hat Anfang der 90er zusammen mit Texta einen wichtigen Grundstein der Hip Hop Szene in Österreich gelegt. Jetzt ist sein neues Instrumentalalbum "Experiences" erschienen. In dieser Folge sprechen wir über sein Album, über seine Anfänge in der Szene, seine Erfahrungen bis heute, über Texta, über die Hip Hop Szene in Österreich und alle möglichen anderen Themen.
