A brief description of some of the smaller festivals from around the state. I also start a new segment called, "What's in my Red Chile" and "What's in my Green Chile." This will be topics that "burn" me to topics that make me feel good. No political topics as there's enough of that around.

The past week has been marked by disaster for people in and around Ruidoso, New Mexico.
The two wildfires that ravaged parts of the resort mountain community — the South Fork Fire and the Salt Fire — were reported on Monday, June 17. Twenty-four hours later residents were ordered to evacuate and the fires destroyed more than 1,000 structures.

RUIDOSO, N.M. —

One person has died from the fire, according to the New Mexico Governor's Office.

The state Forestry Division said the fire grew Tuesday due to "long-range spotting," meaning that burning materials are carried up by winds and fall outside the current fire boundary.

Two fast-growing fires are tearing across a southern New Mexico tribal reservation and converging on a village “like a pair of tongs,” prompting thousands of residents to evacuate, officials say.
A wall of smoke filled the sky over the village of Ruidoso on Monday evening as a line of cars snaked out of the community. An estimated 5,000 residents were ordered to evacuate the village area due to the approaching South Fork Fire, New Mexico Forestry spokesperson George Ducker told CNN.
The South Fork Fire started Monday morning on Mescalero Apache tribal land and had spread to at least 3,000 acres by nightfall, Ducker said. It exploded in size overnight, authorities said. The fire has burned 13,921 acres with zero percent containment, the Village of Ruidoso said early Tuesday.
A second blaze, the Salt Fire, is also burning on tribal land south of Ruidoso and had scorched 2,800 acres by early Tuesday.
