Not only did he carefully observe dozens of alliances in the wild, but he also captured these observations in a comprehensive and painstakingly classified catalogue that a true partnerships connoisseur can't fall to appreciate.

Alliances by Ard-Pieter de Man is a classic in our relatively young field. A lot of subsequent research either borrowed from it or builds on it. We could not in good conscience omit from our first season a conversation about this foundational piece.
