Straßen sind eines der wichtigsten Merkmale moderner Zivilisationen, ob ihr es glaubt oder nicht. Für mich und wohl auch für die meisten anderen ist der Zustand der Straßen in einem Land ein Indikator für den Entwicklungsstand. Es überrascht daher nicht, dass Chemie beim Bau von Straßen eine große Rolle spielt.
Auf Wunsch eines Hörers gehe ich in dieser Folge auf die Chemie von Bitumen und dessen physikalischen Eigenschaften ein, die für eine gute Straße erforderlich sind.

Es braucht etwas mehr als 100 mg Zyanid, um einen 75 kg schweren Menschen zu töten. Etwas mehr als 100 mg und das unglückliche Opfer zeigt die verräterischen Anzeichen von "bläulichen Tönen des Sauerstoffmangels, die die Haut fleckig machen".
Zyanidvergiftungen sind so alt wie die Nutzung von chemischen Stoffen mit diesem Bestandteil und diese Episode befasst sich mit der Chemie, die im Körper dabei geschieht.
„Dies wird die vorläufig letzte Episode der Alltagschemie sein. Es hat mir sehr viel Spass gemacht, aber aus den üblichen Gründen, muss dieses Hobbyprojekt auf unbestimmte Zeit gestoppt werden.
