Mariano Kappes obtained his Bachelor´s degree in Materials Science and Engineering at the Instituto Sabato in Argentina in 2006 and then obtained his PhD in 2011 at the Ohio State University. His PhD thesis was distinguished with the Morris Cohen Award, awarded annually by The Electrochemical Society to outstanding graduate research in the field of corrosion. Since 2014 he is a research scientist at the National Agency of Atomic Energy in Argentina and a Professor at the National University of General San Martin. Currently, his research is focused on environmentally assisted cracking and localized corrosion in materials used in nuclear power plants, pipelines and in the oil and gas industry.
