Have you ever been told to "never burn a bridge"?

I have been told time and time again by friends and family that I should never burn a bridge. It's something that comes up pretty much any time you try to change anything in your life. 

That's just it though. 

As far as I'm concerned, this is a saying that came out of the natural fear of change that people just have. More specifically... the fear of the unknown.
