What does it take to build a career—and a reputation—that lasts?
On this episode of Always Coachable, Sandy Cohan sits down with Stefano Cantali, former Division I hockey player and CEO of AHA — Advancement Hockey Agency, for a conversation about hockey, leadership, mentorship, business, and the relationships that shape us along the way.
Stefano shares his journey from growing up around the game in Montreal to playing college hockey and overseas in Europe, navigating injuries and adversity, and eventually making the transition from player to advisor and CEO.
They dig into why authenticity matters, why the best coaches and advisors aren't afraid to tell players the truth, and why trust is built through honesty—not promises or telling people what they want to hear.
Stefano also opens up about building a company around shared values, supporting athletes beyond the rink, balancing family with a demanding career, and why the people who continue learning are often the ones who continue growing.

🎙️ NEW EPISODE: KIM McCULLOUGH
Can you teach competitiveness?
On this episode of Always Coachable, I sit down with Kim McCullough, founder of Total Female Hockey, former Dartmouth captain, and six-year professional hockey player.
We talk about Kim’s journey from player to coach and entrepreneur, the role mindset played in her own career, and what she’s learned from years of developing female hockey players.
We dive into confidence, compete level, creativity, fundamentals, decision-making, resilience, and the differences between coaching girls and boys.
One of my favorite takeaways from Kim:
“You can teach a thousand percent of that compete mode.”
Whether you’re a player, parent, or coach, there’s a lot to take away from this conversation.

🎙️ EPISODE 15 — JEFF HALPERN
What does it take to spend 14 years in the NHL, captain your hometown team, transition from player to coach, win two Stanley Cups—and still believe you have more to learn?
This week on Always Coachable, I sit down with longtime friend Jeff Halpern.
Jeff played four years at Princeton before going on to play nearly 1,000 NHL games, including serving as captain of the Washington Capitals. Today, he’s an assistant coach with the Tampa Bay Lightning and a two-time Stanley Cup champion.
But this conversation goes well beyond the résumé.
We talk about growing up playing hockey in an area where people told him he’d never make it, earning everything that came his way, the pressure of staying in the NHL, finding his voice as a coach, leadership, family, humility, and why the best players—and coaches—never stop learning.
One thing Jeff said really stuck with me:
The players who can listen, learn and take coaching without ego are often the ones who continue to improve.
That’s what Always Coachable is all about.
🎧 Episode 15 with Jeff Halpern is out now.
What does it take to turn a love for the game into a life built around it?
Episode 15 of Always Coachable features Kevin Clark — former professional hockey player and founder of Cascade Hockey.
Kevin shares his journey from an undersized kid in Winnipeg to playing professionally, and the grit, sacrifice, discipline, and relentless drive to improve that carried him along the way.
We talk about the inner compete that pushed him as a player, the lessons he learned through the grind of professional hockey, and why he’s now so passionate about passing that knowledge on to the next generation.

FROM PRO HOCKEY TO ENTREPRENEURSHIP — Ryan Vesce knows what it takes to keep getting better.
On the newest episode of Always Coachable, I sit down with former professional hockey player and Matterhorn Fit founder & CEO Ryan Vesce for a conversation about what separates good from great — in sports, business, and life.
Ryan shares his journey from Cornell to professional hockey and eventually entrepreneurship, and we dive into self-belief, resilience, discipline, leadership, culture, and what it takes to build something that lasts.
We talk about chasing long-term goals while winning the day in front of you, handling adversity, taking risks, developing mentally tough athletes, and why the culture you create can ultimately determine the success of a team or business.
One of my favorite lines from Ryan: “The small difference between good and great is tiny.”
That tiny difference? It’s built every day.

What separates people who want success from those who are willing to do what it actually takes?
In this episode of Always Coachable, I sit down with Dr. Jamie Phillips, founder of Ghost Athletica and former professional hockey player, to talk about the obsession behind success—and the sacrifices, setbacks, and mindset that come with chasing big goals.
Jamie shares his journey from professional hockey to coaching and entrepreneurship, and we dive into resilience, failure, self-awareness, taking risks, and why talent alone is never enough.
Because at some point, wanting it isn't enough. You have to be willing to do the work when nobody's watching.
What does it take to challenge the norm—and build something better?
In the newest episode of Always Coachable, I sit down with Anthony Mora, CEO of Blade Tech Hockey, to talk about entrepreneurship, innovation, and what it really takes to build a premium brand in a competitive industry.
What stood out to me most about Anthony's story is the willingness to keep pushing forward—even when the outcome wasn't guaranteed.
We talked about challenging conventional thinking, taking risks, learning through failure, building a culture around quality and customer service, and why being coachable remains one of the biggest advantages you can have in business and in life.
Whether you're an entrepreneur building something from the ground up, a leader trying to grow a business, or someone chasing an idea you believe in, this conversation is packed with lessons about persistence, growth, and having the courage to challenge the norm.

How do you keep moving forward when the path you’re on looks nothing like the one you originally imagined?
In the newest episode of Always Coachable, I sit down with Jason Stewart—owner and founder of Mosaic Sports—to talk about his journey from hockey player to coach, educator, and entrepreneur.
What stood out to me most was Jason’s willingness to keep learning, take chances, and bet on himself.
We talked about resilience, failing forward, surrounding yourself with good people, trusting your team, and staying open to opportunities you may not have seen coming.
“You bet on yourself and you ask the right questions.”
Whether you're an athlete, coach, entrepreneur, or leader, this conversation is a reminder that growth doesn’t always follow a straight line. Keep learning. Stay open. And be willing to step into the unknown.
