When a person comes before Hashem daily to do Teshuva he opens up all his flaws to Hashem. When we lay our flaws out on the table like that we are forced to face our true selves. Only after your peeled back all the lies that hide the truth of who you really are , can you begin to really walk in the path of truth and do a sincere Teshuva (repentance).
