Update - on September 7 2022, a wrongful death lawsuit filed by Amanda's family in October 2021 was granted dismissal by Jefferson County Circuit Judge Brenda Stacey. Kim Rensing, a co-counselor for Westfall, had the following to say within their motion for dismissal:

“Despite the plaintiffs’ speculations to the contrary, no evidence has ever been discovered or provided to make any sufficient connection to support any criminal charges against Mr. Westfall regarding Amanda Jones’ disappearance and purported death. Nothing has occurred in the last 16 years to change that fact. If the plaintiffs were so convinced of the cause of Amanda Jones’ death, they should have filed a claim for wrongful death by Aug. 14, 2008, three years after the accrual of the cause.”
