WASTEWATER SPILL REPAIRS UNDERWAY: The City of Amarillo is conducting repairs after an unauthorized discharge of 100,000 gallons of treated wastewater was discovered on Feb. 23 at 9:45 a.m. in a non-residential area approximately one-half mile south of the Harrington Power Generation facility and one-half mile west of Lakeside Drive. The cause was a broken air relief valve, and repairs are expected to be complete within 48 hours. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has been notified. City officials stated no public or private drinking water sources are within one-half mile of the spill location, and the water had been fully treated and disinfected, posing no environmental hazard [1][2][3].

HOUSE FIRE IN NORTHEAST AMARILLO: An early morning structure fire on Feb. 24 caused significant damage to a single-family home in the area of Currie Lane and Northeast 20th Avenue. The Amarillo Fire Department responded at 4:17 a.m. and declared the fire under control by 4:57 a.m. No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported. The Amarillo Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause [4].

US 60 REOPENED AFTER TRAIN SEARCH: US 60 at the Randall/Deaf Smith County line was temporarily closed while law enforcement searched a train for an armed suspect. The search turned up empty, and the highway was reopened just before 1 p.m. on Feb. 24 [5].

WILDFIRE STATUS UPDATE: As of Feb. 24, one wildfire continues burning in the Oklahoma panhandle, and one new fire has started in Texas. The Stevens Fire in Texas County, Oklahoma is 12,428 acres and 100% contained. The Willard Fire in Dallam and Sherman counties, Texas is 546 acres and 80% contained with forward progress stopped [6].
