Relations between South Africa and Burundi remain cordial. South Africa’s primary focus in Burundi over time has been the successful facilitation of the Peace Process, which ended successfully in December 2009. An amount of R10 million was allocated from the African Renaissance Fund to aid the Burundi Peace Process. South Africa’s diplomatic representation in Burundi started in 2001 and was upgraded to a full Embassy in 2004 when Ambassador MD Lembede was appointed as Ambassador to the country.
Joining us in studio today to share more details on relations between the two countries is the Ambassador of the Republic of Burundi to South Africa, His Excellency Mr Alexis Bukuru.
