AMD R9 290X in 2019: Benchmark vs. RX 590, GTX, RTX, & More
We revisited the AMD R9 290X former flagship video card in 2019, benchmarking it versus modern GTX, RTX, Vega, and RX GPUs.

The AMD R9 290X is one of the former flagships of AMD's lineup, released originally c. 2013 and later followed-up with the 390X and Fury X. The 290X that we're re-testing today has 4GB of memory and uses stock clocks, but an overclock pushes our 290X reference card to performance above average even for most partner models. This allows us to look at how partner cards would have done as well, except ours was much louder. The 290X is benchmarked vs. the GTX 1060, RX 580, RX 590, Vega 56, RTX 2070, and most other major card launches in the surrounding generations.
