American History X

Listen Later

This week we review  the 1998 American crime drama film American History X directed by Tony Kaye (in his feature directorial debut) and written by David McKenna.

The film stars Edward Norton and Edward Furlong as two brothers from Los Angeles who are involved in the white power skinhead and neo-Nazi movements.

The older brother (Norton) serves three years in prison for voluntary manslaughter, is rehabilitated during this time, and then tries to prevent his brother (Furlong) from being indoctrinated further.

Well, this is awkward - we kick off the podcast with a story from the Scotsman about cutting his finger and he refuses to move on until the Aussie brings a story of his own to the podcast- after what feels like several uncomfortable minutes of silence, he finally manages to tell us a story about life, love and loss.

This is an incredibly confronting movie - a hard to movie to sit through - but an important movie to watch.

Ed Norton and Ed Furlong so well cast. If this doesn't bring out the emotion in you - nothing will.

We debate strongly the motive behind the jail shower scene - let us know if you agree with the Aussie or the Scotsman. Maybe you have your own theory

Listen to the podcast now on Spotify, Apple, Podbean or wherever you listed to podcasts and please - if you click the subscribe or follow button - it really does help us be seen amongst all the other podcasts.
