When Habakkuk speaks of judgment in verse sixteen, it is that which he heard and understood to be. When the Lord judges a nation, any nation, there is nothing like it at all. He says of this upon hearing of this judgment, “my belly trembled, my lips quivered at the voice: rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in myself.” Now to be sure, he heard the Word of the Lord here. Upon being in the presence of the Lord, he could not stand up, for rottenness entered his bones. This is another way of saying; I could not stand straight.
