The people who built it had an intimate understanding of astronomy as well as stone construction. It is an accurate astronomical calendar that plots many solar and lunar events such as solstices and equinoxes as well as many ancient holidays. No one is sure who built it or why. It draws in pagans, paranormal investigators, mystery enthusiasts, archeologists, and historical enthusiasts. It could be the oldest man made structure in the United States. It has spiritual significance for some and for others it is a puzzle to be solved or a hoax to be debunked.
