Actress and entertainer Christine Jorgensen was the first publicly-known American trans woman. Outed by the New York Daily News, she took it in stride and became a writer and speaker on the transsexual experience. Christine handled discrimination and ignorance with poise and gave the sexual revolution "a good kick in the pants."
