Majoring in the Minors (Minor Prophets)Amos II: The Truth About Sincere WorshipJune 10, 2012Please turn in Bibles to Amos 7 20Since you died with Christ to the basic principles of this world, why, as though you still belonged to it, do you submit to its rules: 21“Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!”? 22These are all destined to perish with use, because they are based on human commands and teachings. 23Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence. Colossians 2:20-23The Righteous Standard“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38This is the first and greatest commandment. 39And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.” Matthew 22:37-39Amos 7:1-8: God’s Plumb Line = Righteous StandardApp: (Vs 3-6): Too often “the church” seems anxious for God to come and judge the world. There is no difference, 23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24and are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus…27Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. On what principle? On that of observing the law ? No, but on that of faith. Romans 3:21-24, 27We love because He first loved us. 1John 4:203 Things We Can Do to Truly Love Our Neighbor1.(Amos 5:18-20) Walking in God’s Spirit, do everything we can to prepare all men for the Day of the Lord. 2.(Amos 5:21-24) Walking in God’s Spirit, do everything in our power to make sure all men are treated as special creations of God.3.(Amos 6:1-6) Walking in God’s Spirit, we have a higher purpose than personal comfort and security. (ref. Luke 12:1-6)What is God’s Spirit speaking into your life today? How must you respond?
