I grew up in Hell's Kitchen in the shadow of The Westies - New York's most infamous Irish mob. My life was surrounded by violence, crime, and the constant threat of falling into the same life as everyone from the Westside of Manhattan. But my husband and I chose a different path - one that led us across the country, into the heart of the entertainment industry, and ultimately to the Oscars, but we learned there is no escaping.
