For the first episode of season 1, I speak with Amy Dillon, an Australian living in Edmonton. She moved from Melbourne to a small, rural Alberta town for love about 4 years ago.

Although now she lives in Edmonton, she’s gained new perspectives from the culture shock that resulted from her move across the world.

I wanted to interview Amy for the podcast because for one thing, she’s always up for a new creative project and secondly, she’s open to talking about the differences she sees in Australian and Canadian culture. Overall, I would describe her as a ‘taste-maker’ because of her eye for design and her taste for flavour.

If you want to delve deeper into Melbourne culture and her hometown of Mornington Peninsula, take a gander at the links and suggestions from Amy below (in her words!)

Amy’s Picks

The first thing that comes to mind is Triple J radio. It’s an ABC show and has an awesome news show everyday called hack. They also play ad free local and international music of all genres.

The only movie I can think of is The Castle – an old tongue-in-cheek Aussie film that documents the story of a loveable bogan family as the fight to keep their home from being bulldozed for a new airport. It’s kind of on the same plane as Trailer Park Boys haha.

I guess a link to Mornington Peninsula‘s official website is fitting. It includes all the fun stuff there is to do where I grew up.

When talking art and culture in Melbourne, I can’t really go past the abundant street art. The most famous spot is Hozier lane but it’s literally everywhere.

Australian Centre for the Moving Image always has really interesting exhibitions.

Finally, the food and coffee! It’s obviously my favourite thing haha! Melbourne has so many good spots; here’s links to a couple of my faves.
