The death of the Lord Jesus Christ was not an accident, nor a mistake, nor some heavenly miscalculation. His death had not been a secret, Indeed it had been pre-figured throughout the Old Testament in the old covenant. There were daily reminders in the old covenant sacrificial system that death was required for there to be fellowship between God and His people. In the New Testament, Jesus Himself, in telling the parable of the wicked vinedressers spoke of the people saying that they would kill the Son so as to gain His inheritance, a clear reference to His own upcoming death. It was an event that was accomplished for our sakes, for our gain and eternal benefit.
