An Evolving Legacy: General John Bell Hood, pt. 3

Listen Later

At the end of his life, General John Bell Hood was regarded by most as a well-respected soldier who had risked life and limb for his country. He was so beloved by the men in his Texas Brigade that they raised thousands of dollars to care for his orphans, and it was his legacy as a battle commander that led to Fort Hood being named after him in the 1940's.

But decades after his death, allegations and rumors were spread about Hood's competency as a commanding officer. Were Hood's failings as an army commander the result of being love sick? Was he addicted to drugs and unfit for command? Was he so angry at his men that he purposefully wasted their lives in a doomed battle?

All these questions and more are answered in the newest episode of “TENN in 20: Official Podcast of the Battle of Franklin Trust.” Join hosts and historical enthusiasts Brad and Sarah, along with special guest Eric Jacobson, historian, author, and CEO of the Battle of Franklin Trust, as they discuss the evolving legacy of John Bell Hood.
