Justice and vengeance can look very similar because both require bloodshed. "Without the shedding of blood there can be no remission of sins" says Hebrews. But here's the difference between justice and accusatory vengeance; the purpose of accusation is control, the purpose of justice is reconciliation. Justice restores the peace that was broken by sin, and is thus the antithesis to accusation. "An eye for an eye" is the cornerstone of restorative justice, and this principle is the foundation of our salvation and of our life together in Christian community.
