One of the most dangerous possibilities for all of us is to receive specific instructions from someone who doesn’t have precise clarity or understanding. We are surrounded by people who have eyes shut and mouths wide open. Politics, education, entertainment, and religion are all spheres that are filled with people who do plenty of communicating. Their bold speech is rarely backed by helpful wisdom. What may very well be needed for them (and for us!) is an eye opening encounter with the God of the Bible. The Prophet Isaiah had spent five chapters in non-stop talking. Then, in chapter six, Isaiah found himself in the middle of an overwhelming encounter with God. His eyes were opened, his mouth was closed, and his heart was made humble and wise. What would be the result if you and the people around you also had such an encounter? It needs to be more than a hypothetical question. It needs to become our prayer and quest.
