Derek Boyd, a 20+ year Risk Management & Safety leader focuses on development of others and helping colleagues deliver digestible loss mitigation solutions. He recently joined Greenheck Group as the Global Environmental Health & Safety Director overseeing a team of 7 EHS professionals.

Derek shares from his vast experience in consulting. Among other things, he talks about the skills that make an impactful consultant. It is important to be authentic and make a trusting relationship with a client. Behind defenses and resistance there are certain feelings, most often strong ones. Ask your clients to express what they are experiencing. Attempting to conquer and defeat resistance, you only intensify resistance. As consultants, we have to recognize, evaluate and strive towards assisting a client with reasonable control recommendations to reduce the risk. Observations are critical, and many times more valuable than sample results.
