Complacency is a comfortable little narcotic of the mediocre mind. It’s the warm blanket people pull over themselves when they’ve decided that the status quo, however absurd, will do just fine. Complacency is not merely laziness; it’s moral sedation. It’s the smug conviction that because things are tolerable for someone, they must therefore be tolerable in general. A comfortable mental prison cell of negative certainty — well-upholstered, climate-controlled, and locked from the inside.

Evolution, whether biological, psychological, or social, doesn’t favor comfort. It favors adaptability, curiosity, and the capacity to update one’s reality tunnel when the data changes. But complacency is the refusal to update.

The No Kings protests are a marvelous eruption of the human spirit into the political landscape. To see people in the United States of America, a society long habituated to the theater of managed choice and the soft hypnosis of consumerism, awakening and dancing in the streets beneath banners that declare the blatantly obvious “No Kings” — well, that is the body politic rediscovering its pulse and deeper spirit.

Democracy, in its truest sense, is not a system of bureaucratic rituals or a cold architecture of laws. It is an ecstatic phenomenon. The collective imagination made flesh, the many realizing they are, like an ant hive or mycelial network, one organism with countless voices and are the most powerful. More than pedo oligarchs, or a nightmare fuel supreme court, or a deeply mentally ill criminal shitler clown president gone rogue. The No Kings movement, in its humor, in its refusal to genuflect before the false idols of authority, is a reclamation of humor and joy as a political act. And joy, my friend, is one of the most subversive forces in the cosmos. Tyrants and bureaucrats cannot understand it, for it arises from a source beyond fear or control so the MAGA cult of fear is so jealous of their joy because they have no joy and will have no joy until they leave the cult.

The fascist psyche of growing up in cults of lovelessness, sexual repression, internal fear and weakness, and shadow thrives on the fictional creation of an enemy so vivid, so grotesque, that violence against it can be justified. They long not merely to demonize the majority that aren't in their minority cult of dark imperial fake supremacy, but to provoke that other into striking back. Because the moment the patriotic people of dissenting voices are baited into violence, then the fasct clowns can don the mask of the victim and say, “See, we were right all along. They are dangerous. They must be controlled.”

It is the same game that schoolyard bullies play, but writ large upon the political stage. They taunt, they insult, they try to strip away dignity, all with the hope of eliciting a punch. And the punch is then the justification for escalation, for repression, for the tightening of the wanna be authoritarian yet actually pathetic grip. Fascism requires chaos to sell order, it requires violence to sell security. Without the spectacle of blood and broken glass, its promises fall flat.

We very sporadically get feedback but it's few and far between. When we do get rare feedback, 2/3 of the time it's impressive, thoughtful, insightful, even educational, but most of all proactive. But the other 1/3 of the time the comments are so staggeringly poor they are laughable. We've noticed a consistent pattern in each and every one of these really atrocious comments - They are regressive and they are reactionary. Not to mention always coming from someone who is anonymous - A troll.

Oliver Kornetzke had a great summary of the American president in office in the year of our lord 2025 / otherwise called the imperial roman calendar which was co-opted and stolen from the more sophisticated indigenous to pagan lunisolar calendar. Fake pharisees Christians, which are the ones who are not love and light, loving their neighbors, but instead hate (just because they fear) everyone not like them and think they are supreme, which would be the subprime Christian Nationalists, and thank you non supremacist real love and light Christians who support us in also calling them out, think their fictional male sky daddy version of God works through imperfect people. The current one being someone who has been a lifelong criminal who should have been in jail since the 1970's and the Russian's have had kompromat on since the 1980's thus never should have even been allowed to have any sway in local New York City politics, let alone federal politics, let alone even run for office, let alone get elected to federal office, let along fail upwards as an entry level political position to the highest office in the land while continually committing crimes all the way up.

What we are witnessing in what calls itself conservative but is really just regressive media in the west today is not journalism in the classical sense - it is court ritual, a choreography of flattery and fear. It has become sycophantic because it no longer serves truth but instead power and no longer enlightens but anesthetizes. In periods of higher consciousness, we had counsels of wise elders in democratic organization. In dark age kingdoms, monarchs were almost never the Walt Disney version of a philosopher King or Queen but we're instead more Alice in Wonderland "off with his head" egomaniacal psychopaths. Thus empires had to be built on lies where the person at the top was told they were good when they were instead really bad. Courtiers surrounded them echoing his words, magnifying his myths, and shielding him from the murmurs of the real world. The same drama is now enacted nightly across millions of glowing screens from thousands of different grifting sources.

A sycophantic media ecosystem thrives not on inquiry, but on affirmation. It tells its audience what they already believe, and praises them for believing it. It replaces curiosity with certainty, complexity with outrage, and civic responsibility with tribal belonging. The news anchor becomes a priest of grievance, dispensing indulgences to the faithful and casting heretics into the outer darkness. The result is a kind of psychic feedback loop, where propaganda is mistaken for revelation and emotional arousal for insight.

Comedian George Carlin, that great court jester of empire, pierced the veil with these words. He was not joking, though it came wrapped in laughter. He was revealing the architecture of power in America, which is not democracy in the Athenian sense but plutocracy, oligarchy, and the orchestration of society by malevolent Godzillionaires who hold the levers of capital, media, and lobbying. Carlin’s genius was that he could condense the unspoken reality into a phrase so sharp it cut through the fog: that the average citizen is managed, pacified, manipulated, but never truly invited into the circles where decisions are really made.

Now contrast this with the comedian Joe Rogan, whose arc has been peculiar. He began as an outsider—comic, martial artist, psychonaut - someone who sat at the edges of culture, exploring taboo subjects, amplifying voices that the lamestream media ignored. In this way, he bore the spirit of initiation, cracking the seal for millions into discussions of psychedelics, UFOs, alternative histories, and human potential. 

But then—success, influence, and the gravitational pull of that “big club.” The very dynamic Carlin warned of began to enfold Rogan. The curiosity began to wobble. Instead of being the gadfly pricking the system, his voice increasingly became captured by the same circuits of power he once subverted. Because as wealth accumulates, and celebrity solidifies, the outsider is no longer outside and what was once disruptive becomes contained within the big club itself. Carlin never joined that club. He stayed outside, hurling his Molotov cocktails of truth wrapped in laughter. By contrast, Rogan has been drawn towards it, and Transmuted from Stoned Ape theory advocate to oligarchic ball gargler in the process.

The insight hidden in plain sight: hate speech is not the roar of strength, but the cry of fear dressed up in armor. When someone unleashes venomous words - when they spit their bile into the public square - it is easy to mistake it for dominance, for power. But if you lean closer, if you listen not just to the words but to the trembling beneath them, you hear something else: fear. Fear of displacement, fear of change, fear of the unknown that looms like a shadow over the familiar world.

Hate speech is scared speech because no one lashes out at what they fully understand. We only vilify what we think threatens us, and what threatens us is usually what we do not yet comprehend. And let's say in India for the misguided Hindu Nationalist, or in our country Christian Nationalist (which is really just Christian Supremacist) who has such low self worth and self esteem they allowed themselves to sink into a theo / fasct cult this is the non-supremacist, immigrant, queer person, the political other - these figures become phantasms onto which fear is projected. And because the psyche cannot say, “I am afraid,” it converts that energy into hate, which feels more forceful, more self-assured. But it is a mask, a brittle shell around a frightened core. Any former Neo Natzi in recovery that evolved beyond it will have done enough development to say in their past it was easier for them to say "I hate them" then the reality which was "I was so scared".
